Isaiah 7:14–16 — The virgin shall conceive
In 735 BC Isaiah gives Ahaz a sign in his own generation: a young woman will bear a son named Emmanuel, and before the child is grown the threatening kings will be gone. Matthew keeps that history and reads a further fulfillment in the virginal conception.
