1:23“Behold, a virgin shall conceive in her womb, and she shall give birth to a son. And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which means: God is with us.

Isaiah 7:14–16 — The virgin shall conceive

In 735 BC Isaiah gives Ahaz a sign in his own generation: a young woman will bear a son named Emmanuel, and before the child is grown the threatening kings will be gone. Matthew keeps that history and reads a further fulfillment in the virginal conception.
